Joy to the world! the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven and heaven and nature sing! Isaac Watts George Frederick Handel Let it....go???? I think the saying is Let it Snow!! However, I thought considering how much time the Thompson family has been spending running around to Basketball games recently - this was more appropriate. I don’t know if you receive the Nashville News or not, but Bailey is currently a cheerleader for the OGS Vikings (She and Cousin Alexa!). The Boys won the Little 8 Championship this year. Something we haven’t done in 25 years or the last time a Patton (Paul/Blake) boy was running up and down the court swooshing points through the net!! That was great fun for all - Mom and Dad included. Dennis even lost his voice a bit!! Bailey also is playing girls basketball this year and is making improvements with each game. I tend to yell at her more than the coach. But she is working very hard on her game. Again Cousin Alexa is also playing on the team and is going to be a great center! She does a nice job of putting the team on the board!GO TEAM!! Last year’s cheerleaders - still waiting on this year’s picture! (above) Little 8 Conference Champs!
Sing We All .... I’m desperately trying to think of anything interesting that I did this year.....The band played again at the DuQuoin State Fair - always fun - and also for the Herrin Fest which was WebCast to millions.....I’m sure that not that many tuned in!! Danny Davis is retiring this year after staring up the band with Eric Janes and myself LONG ago. I will miss Danny alot. He has been very supportive, committed, and a great asset to the band and I know I have not thanked him enough!! THANKS DANNY!! Darren, Doug, John, Wally, Dennis and I will be looking for someone who will help fill the vacancy. It’s going to be tough. Danny did so many things....
Silver &..... Woodgrain...Dennis is trying to teach me golf. He really enjoys playing and this fall I played at the Okawville golf course. Kathy Schuessler, Roger Cook, Dennis and I were the "team". Actually Kathy and Roger were the team and Dennis and I were along for the ride!! I however did make a few puts which was very amazing considering how the rest of my game went!! Kathy is a very good teacher though and I may try to play again sometime. Dennis has a lot of power behind his swing ...if he could just be consistent on the aim.... I will say for as little as I let him go out to the course and play, I think that he does very well. Anyway, thank goodness that Dennis and I didn’t have to play by ourselves or we would have been out on the course until sometime the next day. Special thanks to Roger and Kathy for putting up with us. P.S. Bailey likes golf too - it’s a conspiracy!!
The Pops....My Grandmother Poirot was kind enough to invite me to spend the day with her (and a bus load of people who were older than I), Mom, Debbie and Carla (a friend of Grandma’s) early this month. We ate at Landry’s (Union Station - St. Louis) and then listened to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra conducted by Richard Hayman with special guest Deborah Henson-Conant. Definitely COOL! I was please to note that my cousin’s (Zacheis side) daughter was listed as a member of the Children’s Choir - too bad they didn’t also perform (Laura - daughter of Dianne and Gene Unverferdt). Anyway again I thought this was COOL that I knew someone in the program!!
Branson Meets.....This year we took a short trip with Diane, Doug and the girls (Alexa and Allison) to Branson. O.K. the last time I was there I don’t recall ANY OF IT! Woah! Where did it all come from?? Traffic is amazing. I think that we spent about an hour and went about a mile. I don’t know - is that an exaggeration guys?? The whole lot of us spent the day at Silver Dollar City (Fire in the Ho-o-o-ole!) and then ate at the Dixie Stampede. Bailey climbed "the mountain". Doug and the girls raced go-carts. Then we saw those amazing road side animals - now reduced to mostly deer, deer, and oh, more deer! I think that we were all ready to get home by the end of the trip. Anybody ready to go again?
The Jeep....Now, I’m sure your asking yourself...."What has Dennis been up to this year?" I KNOW you were! Just look and see..... Yes we have a Jeep in the family and it has become his obsession...And I thought it was me!!?? Patiently waiting on boxes from the UPS man, Dennis has been working to get this rust bucket (sorry dear! - but it’s true!) ready to OFF-ROAD. I’m thinking of keeping it hidden in the garage!! Anyway, hopefully once finished with its new parts and paint job it will be his pride and joy (after Bailey that is) I know that you’ll all be eagerly awaiting the sequel to this section.... Fess up! I know at least four or five Thompson boys who will be wanting a ride!!!
There are so many other things that we did this year with the people we love, I’d like to get every single thing in....but then it would be a book! Just one more picture though. This was taken at the family reunion this year. Grandma and Grandpa Zacheis, Allison and Ashlee (Reynolds). Thank you Lord for our families. Be sure to give yours a big hug!!
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2002! Dennis, Susan & Bailey
