Although about ten minutes away from Marissa, the Kaskaskia provides
an excellent opportunity for water sports. Boating, water skiing, fishing
and just plain old relaxing all are enjoyable on this 200 ft wide river.
It has been channelized from Fayetteville to Chester, IL which yields about
36 miles of river to explore. At Chester a lock operated by the Corps
of Engineers allows access to the Mississippi. Also when water levels
are high the more adventurous boaters can make a 55 mile cruise up
the scenic old channel from Fayetteville to Carlye Lake.
