In designing and building this site my main concern was loading
speed. When surfing I often hit the "stop" button and move on because of
slow loading sites. I admire the art of a really nice page but many visitors
never see them because it takes too long to load. So rather than make it
dance and sing, I decided to keep it simple and let the pictures tell the
story.
And about the pictures - I have compressed them to the point
it is starting to show but still feel they are satisfactory. Again this
is a trade off for loading time. Also, they are best when viewed
at 600X800 and 16 bit color. At 640X480 the compression artifacts are more
noticeable.
Also if you are interested all the photos were taken with my
Sony FD-71 digital camera with a resolution of 640X480. We have been very
pleased with this camera and its image quality and are now using it for
the newspaper. The fact that it saves the picture as a .JPG file
on a 3 ½ floppy (about 20 per disk) makes it very convenient
to use and there never is a worry about running out of memory. The images
you see here are not really a fair reflection of its ability because I
have ‘aggressively’ compressed them.
If you would like more info on the camera or have any
comments (positive or negative)
about the site please let me know.
I hope you enjoy the site!
Sincerely,
Ray Macke
